I was back home doing my data collection for my research. I started to watch Grey’s Anatomy, expecting it to be more like Scrubs, it was not!! It's based on medicine!! I think the common thread ends there. When I did come back to the hostel, where there is one TV in the DH (dining hall) for almost 500 students, there was no question of watching TV. What is the internet for? Its, a saviour!!! If not for the movies and songs on the net... We would all be in a mental institute or even a criminal asylum. Thankfully we are not and therefore... the sanity... (Or so I think!!). Found a link to watch the episodes online... now I know what happens in the current season too. So, why the eagerness to watch the show? Some dumb, crappy show that is not even funny!! Well, I think it is more to do with a story, the end. To find the end. The same reason that one reads a thriller novel or any story.
When it ends it ends. Does it really?
The end according to V V of The Great Indian Novel is arbitrary to the writer, because she/he has to find a way to end what was started. But is the end the real end? Even death according to him is not the end. The story does not die with the death of the protagonists. His death does not end the story of his family, or anyone, and hence the cycle. So, why is there a need to find an end? Are we bound by our mind to find the end? Or do we plainly follow the author to his end, and make it our end, so that it does not complicate our lives? Thinking of an alternative would be spontaneous sometimes, but who has the time to think of all the permutations and combination of things that can happen in a particular situation? Therefore we look towards the author/ writer to finish what she/he started as a story; it could be in the novels, the TV series or the movies. There is a sense of completion with an arbitrary end, and we are conditioned to seek this end in everything; our daily tasks, our relationships (of course I’m talking about the once we do not sustain), our deadlines etc. We end the novel, and start another!! But when we do end, we expect it to end in a certain way, and that is the beginning of a new story in our minds.
My story here meets a different end. My roomie wanted to watch the show too, so she got onto watching some of the older episodes, she wanted to know what happened before, likewise since both of us were talking of it and watching it so often, another friend started to watch it too. They wanted to know the beginning, to understand what is happening now, because the show is yet to meet its arbitrary end. The way I see it, I started two new stories to find its own end. I have my set of permutations and combination about what will happen; but I would still want to know what happened in the end. Yet to finish a great work by Sashi Tharoor. But yet to answer the ‘is the end really the end?.
At world's end........ there it was.. and i was watching it on the first day.... yeahie !! I was as thrilled as that. A friend had warned me..... he had watched it and had not liked it..... but common... it's the pirates... forget anything i was going to watch it for Jack Sparrow. oh! is he good or is he good.....
