As I was walking out of the theatre, after watching this movie, I heard someone say ' but it’s not the same as the book'. I felt like telling her, forget the book, forget the story, you have one good and sensible Kannada movie to watch, which is more than enough reason to enjoy the movie as it is. [And how many people would have read the book??] Well! But it was a nice change, to watch a packed audience in the third week of this movie. As for the movie, it’s a great. Forget all the fundoo concepts, it deals with the simplest of issues FEELINGS & EMOTIONS, [not of the love triangle and dhuki stories fame] which none of us are devoid of; and of course the hypocrisy of our society. Be it pre- independence or post independence.
The definition of pleasure is different for each person, and is best shown in the film. Be it for Nagamma who longs for Vishwa, a supposed reincarnation of her dead Son to come to her. Or for Rajalakshmi her grand daughter who initially desires to be with her mother Venakatalakshmi, and later wants to protect her. Venkatalakshmi a young widow is sensible and practical, until her reincarnated husband woo's her back. But to the eyes of the society who accepted her lover as her dead husbands’ reincarnation, it was sinful. Rajalakshmi who is much like her mother does not approve too. But it is Achchannaiah the Father-in-law of Venkatalakshmi who is a sensitive witness to the feeling of all the three women. Unlike most other he knows each of these women in his life and supports them in his own way without being dominant. As for Vishwa, [the reincarnated son and husband] he is happy as long as he is taken care of, and has his needs fulfilled nothing more, nothing less [almost like an animal].

Good to hear that there is somebody making some good movie in Kannada. Though Cinema was used quite well for our stories by many good directors in late seventies and eighties, i dont think anybody is ready to write new stories of modern realities may be its difficut to see because writers do not honestly bravely investigate. What I am also noticing that is the ideas off new realities are not creatively made into fiction as fiction requires talented insight. I think the artistic tools of communication are misunderstood by our generation or never realised! Few writers have an orderly understanding of the tools!
What say?
But there is also another aspect which we tend to forget. When people like kasaravalli make movies, they are totally art and the people who appreciate such movies are small in number. We need directors who can balance the so called class audience and the mass audience..
I believe that is when a director is a hero!
For instance, why is the movie called naayi neraLu?
I can understand why the book was called naayi-neraLu.
